Weekly bible studies:

Monday 12-1pm, “Women in the Bible”

Throughout the Scriptures the role and place of women is often diminished. Because of this, it is important that when we come to read the Bible that we recognise and emphasise the stories of women. This is what our Monday Bible study is all about - what do the stories of Eve, Hagar, Mary and Martha (and many more), have to teach us today.

Tuesdays 12-1pm, “Letters of the New Testament”

Join us as at Sydney Uni as we explore the lesser know letters of the New Testament. From 1 Timothy through to Jude, we look at a different letter each week, delving into their context, content and significance.

Where art thou?

Our office and weekly bible studies are in the Sydney University Multifaith Chaplaincy Centre, which is located on level 2 of the Merewether Building (entry off City Rd).

Chaplain - Rev. Adrian Sukumar-White

Contact: adrian@sydneypresbytery.org.au  // 0410 285 138

About me:

Hi there! My name is Adrian and I am the Uniting Church Chaplain at The University of Sydney, and the Tertiary Ministry Resource Officer for Sydney Presbytery, where I help resource the work of our chaplaincy teams at USYD, UTS, UNSW and the Conservatorium of Music. I have bachelor degrees in both Theology and Engineering.

I’ve worked with Christian Students Uniting as a student, Mission Worker, and Chaplain, and have loved every minute of it! Being a Chaplain a fantastic opportunity to engage with students at this formative time of their lives and encourage them to explore how their faith and their field of study connect and interact.

I love playing video games, soccer, catching up with friends at the pub, and spending time with my wife and my new baby daughter who I’m just crazy about!

Mission Worker - Kathryn Lynch

Contact: usyd@csu.org.au

About me:

Hi I'm Kathryn, I am a CSU Worker at the University of Sydney and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I'm the friendly face you’ll see at Bible Studies, social events and O-Days :) I love having a chat with anyone, and especially love hearing people’s stories.

I am a classic Church Nerd – you’ll find me at St Stephen’s Uniting Church on Sunday mornings and Burwood Uniting Church on Sunday evenings. I am also a Lay Preacher, so from time to time I may be at your church filling in for your regular Minister and leading worship or preaching the sermon. I especially love the stories of the Old Testament, with its wild tales of women wielding tent pegs and left-handed assassins; and its stories of men and women who will follow the sound of God’s call to new and unexpected places.

I am studying theology, although I still think of myself as an accountant (let’s just up the nerd factor….), which I was for many years. I sing loudly and sometimes in tune, and I play the piano badly. My favourite weekends are spent playing board games with friends.

Mission Worker - Andrew McCloud

Contact: usyd@csu.org.au

About me:

Hey I’m Andrew, I’m one of the CSU Mission Workers at Sydney Uni!

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in politics and anthropology and also a Bachelor of Music. I’m a total politics junkie, a lover of RuPauls Drag Race, and I sing in an a capella gospel choir. I sometimes teach singing, write songs, and perform at gigs.

As a gay man I read a lot about queer thinking and queer culture and the importance of language and definitions. I strongly believe in promoting good theology and diversity within the Uniting Church, which means supporting multiculturalism and a welcoming space for LGBTIQ people.

I am passionate about discipleship formation and shaping young people into future leaders of the church who can tackle issues of justice and equality, and advocate for the inclusion of all people in our society.
